Just around the Riverbend

I find myself at a crossroad these days, and the fear of turning either way almost overcomes me. I'm surrounded by highways and have lived on one for so long that I cannot remember what it was like to make turns and even head turns at one's whim.
Everything about choosing your path seems to come to my attention easily at the moment, and I can easily think of some ways it has occured in the past few days. Pocahontas' 'Down the Riverbend', the Cheshire Cat and Alice's conversation in 'Alice in Wonderland', and the poem by Robert Frost 'The Road Not Taken':

"Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."

I'm afraid to get it wrong but I know that my current lack of action is just a waist and even worse. I can hear the dooming sounds whenever I try to make a decision. It is almost too life-changing to bear on my own shoulders alone. I need guidance but fail to know the source of it and where to seek. The time runs so fast and I'm not sure how to follow at this speed. The little white rabbit runs around me with his clock and frantically shows it to me while mumbling, 'We're gonna be too late..' over and over. My heart trembles and my body is paralysed. What am I too late for? I feel like I'm going to be too late, but I don't know for what and I want to hold the little rabbit tight and shake him untill he tells me..
'Tik tok tik toc', is all I hear..

Rococo Beauty

After spending most of the day with my lovely older sister, I'm all about focusing on the beauty of the world (considering my last post). I'm currently reading Per Olov Enquist's novel 'The Visit of the Physician' about mad-king Christian VII, his ill-fated queen Caroline Mathilde and her lover and a would-be reformist Struuense. Based on true history its quite thought provoking to read and wonder what could have happened if Struuense didn't have such strong opponents. However, I'm always one for a bit of rococo fashion and interior (my truly favourite period ever!) and wanna share a little here.
I hope you all notice the little everyday wonders and beauties even in the darkest places.

Where did I loose myself?

Paris Exposition: Champ de Mars and Eiffel Tower, Paris, France, 1900

Somewhere along the way in the hazzle of education, youth, expectations, and trying to cope with reality, I seemed to have lost myself. I'm not sure who or where I am anymore and it is very terrifying to be faced with the big question whether to or not go through with it all.
If I choose this way that I'm currently heading, will I forever be lost and away from my dreams? Do I really need to make such a huge decision now or will it be too late if I wait and see?
I'm all questions but no answers, and I feel so empty inside right now. I'm not happy and have to really make an effort to focus on the beauty in life, but I don't know what to do. I don't even know what I want..
I want to be happy.

Weekly Favourites week 12

As always, loads of dresses!!! I simply cannot stop wanting more and more of those effortless garments. I always need to plan thoroughly if I'm wearing trousers; what goes with it in shoes, tops, coats etc...? So much easier with dresses. I will always be a girly girl, I guess, and you know what? I'm fine with that! :) Have a lovely weekend..

The End of the Elizabethan Era

Today, one of the most influential and spectacular stars has died. Elizabeth Taylor will forever be remembered for her fierceful taste of life and everything that goes with it whether good or bad. Here's a salute to the most beautiful woman in the world and I hope that wherever she is now she's happy and with the people she loved. We'll miss you..
Aged 6

"The actress, who was married eight times to seven men, has kept detailed handwritten diaries since being signed by MGM for 61 pounds a week in 1943 as an 11-year-old child star after her breakthrough role in Lassie Come Home."

I can't wait for the publication of these!!!

Inspired by Caravaggio

Actually, it all started with one of the food blogs I stop by on a regular basis. I'm amazed of how they portray the food and even with a very few props (or ingredients). Many of the pictures reminds me of Caravaggio and of his use of clair obscure. He's one of my favourite painters of all time, and it was huge for me to see some of his paintings in Rome and where they were supposed to be. Sometimes I'm annoyed of how I loose the context and the meanings incorporated into the works when they are replaced in art museums. But perhaps that's just me.. Anyways, lovely pictures inspired by Caravaggio (and food blogs!)

Weekly Favourites week 11

I really feel like the online stores are getting in gear for the wedding season, loads and loads of pastel tones and wedding dresses are hitting the shops this week, and there's several lovely pieces amongst them. I'm quite keen on the Matthew Williamson peacock skirt (as everyone else apparently, its sold out!) even though I have no idea when or where I would wear it. Luckily, I'm saved the trouble :)
And where accessories go, you can never have too many Bayswaters or Chanel bags! Period! Have a lovely weekend..

Belle Epoque d'Japoneise

A beautiful image with the most sincere well-wishes dedicated to a (at the least!) very stylish country. May beauty be a small way to relief at this terrible crisis.

Brown paper packages tied up string...

...These are a few of my favourite things that is in my parents' winter garden (for lack of a more precise desciption). My mother is a collector of all sorts of things but she is particularly fond of coloured glass and vintage coffee jars. Here's some of her gems that I wouldn't hesitate to adopt myself should that ever be the question..
Where we all sit and eat dinner in the early and late summer when its too cold to be on the patio.
Sad thing that you cannot see the garden at it's most beautiful, too early in the year for that. The flower bed behind these blue glasses is filled with blue irises, hyacinths, lilies and other blue flowers and my Mum usually calls it her 'Blue Ocean'. Very beautiful..
Some of her sweet vintage coffee jars.. I like when you can see that an item has been used and cared for, and many of these show just that.
More blue glass. If I ever fail to think of a present for my Mum I should just give her blue galss things. She's over-joyed every time she finds another one. I'm not really a glass person myself but these blue bottles I really like.
The winter garden is where my Mum puts her flowers that is destined to survive the cold season, and she also fills the room with new arrangements of flowers in various odd pots and a month or two from now the whole place will be a muriad of all the colours you can think of. My Mum is a very colourful person at it shows in the interior, her wardrobe, and interests.
More glass and small pretty stones collected along the way.

Drawing Rooms

I'm quite fascinated with the idea of decorating your office or even apartment only with your own drawing skills and markers. I would always love to do it myself but will never do out of fear for panick attacks even before I get started! What if you draw something wrong? I can't even start to follow that thought without having my heart up my throat and breaking into a sweat. So best to just love and admire these pictures instead from those who dared.. Here's Charlotte Mann's incredible work. More on her website, please check it out. Via
I really love the drawings of Bernini's "Apollo and Daphne" (I saw it in Rome and I almost cried. To cut marble so thin that light can filtrate through is just unbelievable! My favourite piece of art all time). Would love to have someting like this myself, maybe just on one wall.. But I'll never be able to make a decision on ONE thing.. I'd change the theme or the look constantly and would never get anything done. Its really a bad habit of mine to constantly change plans like this. What would you choose to get marked at your walls?

Art Deco-inspired Weddings Gowns

Through Stumbleupon, I just found these beautiful wedding gowns by Yolan Chris at Wedding Inspirasi. I like to take a look at wedding websites; they offer a ton of beautiful and inspirational images to kick start your next party (even though it doesn't have to be a wedding) or drawings. Sometimes I wonder why I don't just take the plunge and start to design wedding dresses because I have done that all my life anyway.
Anyways, here's one who has. The dresses by Yolan Chris are simply stunning in their quite simplistic silhuette but the beading and the details are exquisite when you take a closer look. If I'm ever to marry, I would love to wear something in the lines of these.
Oh, and I ADORE the hats and veils... and the readhead!! My personal favourites among these are no. 2 and 4.
